Minimalism

The wisdom of life consists in the elimination of Non-Essentials
- Lin Yutang

Ever found yourself stretched to thin? Ever felt both overworked and underutilized? Guilty of majoring in minor activities? Busy but not productive? Being always in motion, but not getting anywhere?

Back in the childhood, Alice in Wonderland used to be my favorite and cartoon show.

Alice asked the Cheshire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, “What road do I take?” The cat asked, “Where do you want to go?” “I don’t know,” Alice answered. “Then,” said the cat, “it really doesn’t matter, does it?

Never understood the meaning back then, but makes so much sense now. Essentialism is generally misunderstood - its not about giving up everything (clothes, food, travel etc.) or setting new year resolution to say "no more" or about pruning the inbox or extreme time management. However to clarify the way of essentialist is about pausing constantly to ask "Am I investing in the right activities"? Most are trivial and few are vital, its for us to understand "Less but Better". Its about learning to tell that difference, learning to filter through options and selecting those that are truly essential.

The choice is easy here - making millimeter of progress in million directions or narrowing down focus which is both satisfying and significant. Essentialism is living by design and not by default, the path on which we enjoy the journey and not just the destination.

As I progress in this journey to redesign my life the essentialist way, will share my experience and at the same time would eagerly await for your thoughts and feedback.

  3. Very well explained by giving the example of " Alice and cheshire cat". It's true, we don't think before buying, we don't know are we buying it for something useful. It is very important to pick up the essentials. The less we buy , the happier we are.
